Charleston the 6th. January 1786

Sir,

The commissioners for Indian affairs have entered into Treaties with the Cherokees, Chocktaws & Chicasaws, which we shall send forward to Congress for the approbation; and as the second and fourth articles of the Treaty with the Cherokees may un some measure immediatley affect the citizens of this state; we have it in command to communicate them to your Excellency.

The Indians complain of a violation of your Treaty with them at Brevits corner and change the citizens with surveying their Lands to the westward of your boundary; and on enquiry the charge will be found true.

They also inform us that two of their Children are now in the possession of Andrew Williamson late a Brigadier General of Ninety Six Deitroit and proabably held by him in slavery.

We are of opinion that a steady adherence to the Treaties will influence confidence in the Justice of Congress; and that a disposition in the adjoining states to carry the Treaties into effect will make the Indians happy in our new change of soverignty, and in constant amity with us.
